Rei Ayanami and Shinji Ikari

Rei Ayanami
Rei is a quiet and introverted
girl.
Her personality makes it difficult
to make new friends and she is alone
most of the time.
She pilots EVA-00 following all orders
given by Gendou without question.
Gendou seems to be like a father for
her and only when with him does Rei
acts like more "normal".
Furthermore she seems to have some
feelings for Shinji as she rescues
him more than once in critical situations.
She was the first child to be chosen for
the EVA project.
Her personality can best be described as
enigmatic.

Shinji Ikari
Shinji, Gendou's son, is the
pilot of EVA-01.
His father's lack of attention
and his mother's death left
Shinji to develop a restrained
and quiet character.
However he is always trying to
change himself. Misato, who acts as mother/sister/friend for Shinji
helps him a lot in finding the
right way.
Shinji feels a deep hatred for
his father, who neglected him in
his childhood and is using him
as a tool for NERV.
On the other hand he feels strangely
attracted to Rei although he does not know why.
